Glossary of Terms
MAC address: Media Access Control. Not to be confused with a Macintosh, eg. Mac.
DHCP: Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. It automatically assigns IP addresses to clients.
NAT: Network Address Translation. Allows multiple workstations to access the internet via a single IP address.
Ethernet: Ethernet is a computer networking technology for local area networks (LANs). It has become the most widespread LAN technology in use during the 1990s to the present.
DSL: Digital Subscriber Line
mesh network: multi-point to multi-point, self organizing, self healing, and fault tolerant network topology
PtP network: Point to Point, com one way to link wired networks, where a single wireless radio connects to another single wireless radio.
PtM network: Point to multi point, common hotspot topology, where a single Wireless Access Point connects to multiple clients
IP: Internet Protocol, the computer networking protocol used on the Internet.
IP address: Internet Protocol address, a computer network address.
